Steam lists full controller support and HDR for ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE. Those features make setup questions important, but the audited public sources do not yet provide a final button map, sensitivity range, accessibility menu, or HDR calibration guide. Connect and identify the controller
Connect the chosen controller before launching the game. Check whether the prompt symbols match the physical device and whether the game exposes a preset, remap, vibration, inversion, or dead-zone setting. Record the device, connection method, prompt style, and visible version. Do not copy the binding of another ACE COMBAT game.

Change one input setting at a time
If the aircraft drifts, test the controller outside the game and then inspect the game’s calibration or dead-zone option if present. If prompts change, record whether the issue follows the device or the preset. Change one value, repeat the same maneuver, and keep the previous setting. This avoids turning a personal sensitivity preference into a general fix.
If input stops after opening a menu or switching windows, record focus state, connection status, and whether a reconnect restores control. A delayed input caused by a frame-time spike belongs in Performance and Errors, even if it first appears as a controller fault.
Use a simple input audit when the aircraft feels unresponsive. Confirm the operating system sees the device, confirm the game prompt, test one flight action, open and close a menu, and repeat the action. If only one axis fails, record that axis and its direction. If every action fails after focus changes, record the window state. This evidence is more useful than saying that “the controller does not work.”
Establish a display baseline
Record resolution, refresh rate, display mode, HDR state, graphics preset, ray tracing state, driver, and monitor capability before judging the image. The Steam page lists hardware ray tracing, DirectX 12, and Shader Model 6.6 or higher in its requirements, but it does not turn those entries into a universal preset or image-quality promise.
For HDR, check the operating-system setting, display capability, in-game option, and screenshot result independently. A washed-out image can come from a negotiation mismatch rather than a GPU failure. If only one mode looks wrong, keep the mode, resolution, and refresh rate in the report.
When comparing display modes, keep the same mission, camera angle, weather, and brightness environment. Note whether the issue affects the whole screen, only the HUD, or a single menu. If changing HDR fixes the colors but introduces a performance or capture issue, record both results rather than calling the setting universally correct for this build and today for later review and evidence for readers and testing for all today.
If the display is readable but the input prompt is wrong, keep the display result and open a separate controller report. Combining both symptoms makes the correction harder to reproduce.
Preserve a readable combat view
A pilot needs the horizon, target marker, warning indicator, objective, and weapon state to remain legible. Do not reduce interface scale or alter field of view only because a preview screenshot uses a different composition. Test the same combat scene in clear weather and a weather-heavy phase, then record what became difficult to read.
If cloud effects or lightning create a frame-time problem, route it to Technical performance. If the target remains visible but the prompt is wrong, route it to Controls.
