The Aircraft hub answers the preparation question that appears before a sortie: which airframe, weapon, and upgrade choice fits the objective? Official ACE COMBAT 8 material confirms a diverse lineup of real-world-inspired fighter jets, MRP earned in missions, special weapons, and freely combinable upgrade parts. It also says that preparation and mission objective should guide the aircraft choice. The hub will turn those facts into lookup pages without inventing a complete roster or a pre-release tier list.
The scope is intentionally narrow. This is the base Steam game with AppID 2288340. The F-14A listed as a preorder bonus receives an edition tag. ACE COMBAT ZERO: THE BELKAN WAR remains a separate bonus game. A plane or part from another ACE COMBAT title does not enter this database just because it is familiar to the franchise.
Choose by mission job, not by a universal ranking
An aircraft comparison should begin with the job on the mission screen. Air-to-air pressure, ground targets, anti-ship work, and giant-weapon encounters can reward different handling and weapon decisions. The official gameplay page confirms these broad mission types and says to consider the objective and playstyle before choosing a plane.
That principle is more useful than calling one jet “best.” A ranking without the release build, difficulty, part state, weapon access, and objective is unstable. The aircraft list will therefore show what is known, what is measured, and what still needs testing. It can recommend a fit for a specific task while avoiding a false promise that one airframe wins every sortie.
That rule keeps the recommendation readable for a new pilot and honest for a returning series player.
Track MRP and the unlock path
Bandai Namco states that additional fighter jets can be unlocked using MRP, an in-game currency earned in missions. The guide should record where a player sees MRP, which screen shows the next unlock, and whether the currency is shared across modes. Those last details are not confirmed by the public pre-release material and must not be filled with numbers from an earlier game.
For each future roster entry, use a compact record:
- aircraft name as displayed in the Steam Windows build;
- role or observable performance description;
- unlock state and MRP cost, with version and date;
- available special weapons and upgrade slots;
- missions or objective types where the choice is useful;
- source status and a link to the full aircraft page.
This structure helps players find a plane without turning unknown fields into blank claims. “Not published” and “not tested” are different statuses and should stay separate.
Understand upgrades as a loadout decision
The official walkthrough says that players can freely combine parts to build a fighter tailored to each mission. That creates a real player intent: compare mobility, weapon handling, targeting, and durability choices against a stated objective. It does not prove that every part is available on every plane or that a numeric stat scales the same way across aircraft.
The upgrades page should show the menu path once the release build makes it clear, then explain how to compare a part before spending currency. A player who loses a target should inspect targeting and weapon options; a player who cannot stay behind an enemy should inspect handling and acceleration; a player who cannot survive an approach should inspect defensive options and the mission route. These are decision criteria, not fabricated stat values.
Separate special weapons from standard firepower
The official sources identify missiles, machine guns, and a variety of special weapons. A source page should make the distinction visible because a search for “special weapon” is not the same as “how do missiles work.” The weapon record should state whether the option is tied to the airframe, unlocked through progression, selected before sortie, or restricted by a mode only when the game confirms it.
When the answer is unknown, keep the page useful by explaining the choice the player can already make: match weapon reach and target type to the objective, reserve defensive awareness for the approach, and read the briefing before purchasing or equipping. Avoid a generic list of every weapon found in franchise history.
Use aircraft pages as living records
This is a pre-release hub, so the maintenance rule is strict. New aircraft, balance patches, ACE Pass content, or a mission-specific unlock should enter Updates first, then the relevant record with the affected AppID, edition, platform, public version, and date. A change to one plane should not cause the entire directory to be rewritten without evidence.
The first child is Aircraft List. Later children are Unlock and MRP, Upgrades and Parts, and Special Weapons. Those pages cover separate lookup intents; they should link to one another only where the next decision is genuinely different. Aircraft List identifies the object, Unlock explains access, Upgrades explains configuration, and Special Weapons explains mission use.
Sources and confidence
The primary evidence is the official walkthrough, the Bandai Namco Europe gameplay guide, the Steam Store page, and the official product page. The independent Ace Combat Wiki aircraft page is a discovery and community-report source, not proof of the final Steam roster. Sources were checked on 2026-08-09 UTC.
The final database should prefer a smaller, verified roster over a larger inherited list. Until launch, it is correct to say that the lineup and values are not complete. It is not correct to copy a prior game’s aircraft, costs, or tier labels into ACE COMBAT 8.
