The Steam listing confirms that ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE includes online PvP, online co-op, and cross-platform multiplayer. It does not yet publish every lobby label, team size, region rule, invite method, or cross-save behavior. Pick PvP or co-op before inviting
PvP asks the group to compete against opposing pilots. Co-op asks the group to complete a shared objective. Before opening an invite, agree on which question the session answers: can everyone join, can the host launch the mode, can the team finish the objective, or can a disconnected player return? A single test should not be reported as proof of every online feature.

Run a clean invitation test
Have each player record platform, game version or visible build, region if shown, input device, and whether the game is at the title screen. Start with a host who can reach the online menu. Test one invite, one join, and one return to the lobby. Note the exact UI wording and whether the party state changes for everyone.
If the host can change mode, record whether the change requires a new invite. If a player cannot join, compare the host and client state before changing settings. Capture the error text, timestamp, and role. Do not claim that a firewall port, account setting, or platform restriction is responsible until an official support source or a repeatable live test supports it.
Take a screenshot or write down the lobby state before changing it when the interface allows. A record of the selected mode, privacy state, party members, and visible version makes a second attempt comparable. It also prevents a later guide from confusing a failed invite with a successful connection that ended during mission loading.
Treat cross-platform as a feature boundary
Cross-platform multiplayer is an official Steam label. The public listing does not name every participating platform or state whether PvP and co-op use identical cross-play rules. Therefore the correct preparation is to look for a cross-play toggle, platform identity indicator, invite-code format, and mode-specific note in the live menu.
Cross-play is not cross-save. Steam Cloud is a separate store feature, and neither label proves that campaign choices, aircraft, MRP, settings, or replay data transfer to another platform. Send save questions to Systems and PC behavior to Technical. Do not ask players to remove a local save while testing an invite.
Diagnose a failed session
If one friend cannot join, keep the working players in the same lobby and compare the failing player’s version, privacy state, and visible message. If the entire group fails, record whether the online menu loads and whether the failure is limited to one mode. Close downloads and verify the game files only when those are normal, reversible platform checks; do not invent a repair sequence for an undocumented error.
For a dropped session, write down host/client role, point in the mission, weather or combat phase, and whether the player returned to the lobby. A match that ends with a clear server message is different from a crash to desktop or a controller focus loss. Keep those cases separate in the update note when the build supplies a patch.
Record a useful result
An online-mode result should include the product AppID 2288340, platform, date, visible version or “not shown,” mode, host/client role, number of players actually tested, and the exact conclusion. “Two Windows Steam players joined co-op on the same version” is a useful observation. “Cross-play always works” is not, because it exceeds the test scope.
